Anna Rees

Country: NZ
Instagram: @annareesdesign
Artist Discipline: Pottery/ Ceramics, Painting

Anna is a self-taught ceramicist whose intuitive and hands-on approach to clay is deeply influenced by Japanese ceramics. She believes in letting the clay guide the process—a philosophy that inspired her to purchase a pottery wheel after just one formal class. Her practice balances curiosity with craftsmanship, often pushing the boundaries of wheel-thrown form.

Returning to making after becoming a parent, Anna is forging a renewed connection with clay—one shaped by limited time and a deeper appreciation for the creative process. During her residency at Driving Creek, she hopes to expand her technical skills, particularly in woodfiring and harvesting local clay, while immersing herself in focused exploration of wheel-thrown forms.

Mahalia White-McColl

Country: AUS
Artist Discipline: Pottery/ Ceramics, Sculpture/ Carving

Mahalia is an emerging multimedia artist from Tasmania, Australia, whose practice spans ceramic sculpture, functional pottery, painting, and drawing. Her work explores the deep interconnection between humans and the natural world, challenging the notion that people exist apart from the ecosystems they inhabit.

Inspired by the fragile beauty of so-called ‘wild’ places, Mahalia uses her art to advocate for environmental awareness and social change. Across every medium she works in, her underlying message is one of symbiosis—reminding us that we are not observers of nature, but participants in it. With a growing body of thoughtful, place-based work, Mahalia brings a grounded yet exploratory energy to her creative journey.
