Inspired by the documentary 'Spontaneous Combustion', his time at Driving Creek will be an exploration into improvisational methods and processes.


Helen Bakker

Helen Bakker is an emerging ceramic artist from Aotearoa who has been working with clay for the past three years. Her practice focuses on stoneware ceramics that are electric-fired, with a keen interest in the meditative and therapeutic nature of making. Her residency at Driving Creek will give her the opportunity to deepen her skills and commit uninterrupted time to her creative development.


Nicole Gaston

Dr. Nicole Gaston is an artist and librarian based in Pōneke, Aotearoa. Her multidisciplinary background informs a ceramics practice that is both conceptual and materially grounded. Nicole brings a reflective, idea-driven approach to clay, using the medium to explore personal and collective narratives. During her time at Driving Creek, she plans to develop a new body of work that blends form, surface, and text.


Phil Kavanagh

Phil Kavanagh is a painter currently studying at the Dunedin School of Art. Originally from the Waikato, his practice focuses on watercolour painting on canvas, drawing from his roots and lived experience. Phil views his residency as a focused space to prepare for postgraduate study and to investigate new directions in his painting.
